Community Storytelling

We know that much of history has been skewed to fit in with the ideals of the conquerors, the politicians, the powerful, the religious and the rich. However, music, art and dance have been powerful carriers of cultural histories, often being the only means by which to preserve these histories in the truest way possible. Drum beats surviving through time, rhythms influencing the changing moods in music as examples.

Everybody has a story to tell, some wisdom to share that can be of benefit to all. The stories that I wish to capture are all about acknowledging and preserving our current cultural histories through the voice of the people.

Where once it was only the rich, powerful and wealthy who could commission a portrait; who would have their words, ideals and rules preserved for eternity, YESIdub is on a mission to capture the stories in the roots and dub scene as well as capture the humble voice of you, and bring your hardships, struggles and successes into the light of day, capture and eternalise the voice of the people and transmit this to the world to help others overcome the barriers that can hold them back from letting their light shine on the world.

Jasmine of Tiger Stripes Fitness, overcame many barriers, suffered from abuse and still has a heart full of love and forgiveness. Offering a safe space for women of all ages to enjoy their bodies to enjoy themselves through Zuumba dance.

Paul suffers from Parkinson's disease and is reaching the end of his days in this world and it's about how he has come to terms with this, acknowledging that death is a part of life and making the most of every single day.

Dubkasm released an album last year that focuses on St. Pauls, eternalising through music a valuable piece of the area's cultural history.

All of these stories will become part of a ‘book’ (long term plan) and I will have articles that will feature on the blog page.
